National Public Gardens Week

APGA_member_rgbA Celebration of our Nation’s Public Gardens; National Public Gardens Day was created in 2009 to drive local and national exposure to the importance of building vibrant, relevant gardens committed to community enrichment and environmental responsibility through community engagement, sustainable practices and conversation. In 2019, we’ve expanded from a day to a week, and hope you will VISIT – VOLUNTEER – VALUE your public garden!

At Wellfield we’re getting a jump start on National Public Gardens Week and kicking it off on Sunday, May 12 by celebrating Mom!

Sunday, 5/12: 

  • Celebrate Mom today! Free general admission for Moms all day, open 11 a.m.-5 p.m.! Michael and Dawn Mitchell with Digital Mitchell Event Photography will be onsite to capture photos of your family (additional fees may apply).
  • Mother’s Day Luncheon (Reservations required) 11 a.m.-1 p.m. This event always sells out, so get your tickets early! Click HERE for tickets.

Monday, 5/13:

  • Volunteer Tour and Info Session 12-1 p.m. Have you wondered about volunteering at Wellfield? Join our Volunteer Coordinator, Jodie Papandrea, for a walk around the Gardens to learn more about volunteering at Wellfield! This is a great chance to ask questions and see how you can help us grow.   • Free After Three! Free general admission after 3 p.m. Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17!
  • Origami in the Garden2 5-6 p.m. American artists Jennifer and Kevin Box discuss their larger than life artistic sculpture creations and announce their 2020 exhibit at Wellfield Botanic Gardens! Reservations required – CLICK HERE
  • Monday Bird Walk 5:30-6:30 p.m. Reservations required – CLICK HERE

Tuesday, 5/14:

  • Free After Three! Free general admission after 3 p.m. Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17! (Due to our special events this week, Free Tuesdays for Elkhart County residents will return next week! Admission is free for ALL after 3 p.m.)
  • Guided Tour of Wellfield 3:30-4:30 p.m. Reservations required – CLICK HERE
  • Weddings and Events Tour 5-6 p.m. Thinking about getting married or hosting your event at Wellfield? Join our Event Coordinator, Heather Spaulding, on a walk around the Gardens to see which space is perfect for your event. Reservations required – CLICK HERE
  • Wellfield Membership: The Whats and Whys You’ll Want to Know with Robert and Peggy Weed Executive Director Eric Garton 6-7 p.m. Reservations Required – CLICK HERE
  • Yoga Nidra Guided Meditation with Barb Naranche 6-7 p.m. Adults (ages over 13) only, please. Reservations required – CLICK HERE

Wednesday, 5/15:

  • Free After Three! Free general admission after 3 p.m. Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17!
  • Members-Only Happy Hour and Groovin’ in the Gardens preview 6-7:30 p.m. Fruit Hills Winery will be pouring the wine, and we’ll have some music in the Gardens to help get us in the spirit of the season. Thursday 5/16:

  • Interpretive Garden Walk 2:30-4 p.m. Join our Environmental Educator Melissa Kinsey for a walk in the Gardens, sharing your stories and observations about the Gardens with others. Reservations required – CLICK HERE
  • Walk with the Director 6-7 p.m. Join Robert and Peggy Weed Executive Director Eric Garton to get a behind the scenes look at where Wellfield is coming from and where we’re headed. Reservations required – CLICK HERE

Saturday 5/18:

  • NPGW Special Saturday Bird Walk 8-9 a.m. Join Wellfield Environmental Educator Melissa Kinsey for a special, National Public Gardens Week bird walk! Reservations required – CLICK HERE

  • Party in the Moonlight 7-10 p.m. Join us for the Elkhart Public Library’s event at Wellfield Botanic Gardens, which kicks off summer reading season! Celebrate Stories in the Stars under the full moon as we read stories, dance with DJ Nikki Nyce and go on a scavenger hunt. Admission is free! And don’t forget, Storytime in the Gardens returns May 21!
