Go Public Gardens Days 2021

APGA_member_rgbIt’s a celebration of our Nation’s Public Gardens! National Public Gardens Day was created in 2009 to drive local and national exposure to the importance of building vibrant, relevant gardens committed to community enrichment and environmental responsibility through community engagement, sustainable practices and conversation. In 2019, National Public Gardens Day became National Public Gardens WEEK, and it has now morphed into Go Public Gardens Days!

We encourage you to visit and enjoy all Wellfield has to offer! During these challenging times, getting outside and enjoying nature is so beneficial. We’re open every day, 10-6 p.m. Events we are offering during Go Public Gardens Days include:

Sunday, May 9th – Celebrate Mom today! Bring her to Wellfield for a walk; today we are offering free admission for all Moms! Better yet, get her a gift that she can use all year: Membership to Wellfield. Click HERE to purchase a membership online, or visit or call our Visitors Cottage (574-266-2006 x105) for more info.

Monday, May 10th
– Grab a friend and come out for our Weekly Wellness Walk, presented in partnership with Beacon Health! You can arrive any time during that 2 hour window – last admission is at 5:40 p.m.
Once you arrive, show us your registration confirmation along with proof of Elkhart County residency for all adults in your party to gain admission. Wellfield members: you don’t need to register, you can visit any time. Not from Elkhart County? You don’t need to register – we’ll welcome you at our Visitors Cottage just like any other day!

Wednesday, May 12th – Join us at 5 p.m for our Weekly Bird Walk! The walks are included with paid admission or Wellfield membership, and they last about an hour. Click HERE for more information and to register.

Here’s more information about one of our favorite sculptures, on display now through October 17, 2021!

Conversation Peace

Spend time in the Conversation Garden enjoying “Conversation Peace” by Kevin Box, created from painted cast stainless steel and stone on steel.
The term “conversation piece” is used to refer to interesting and intriguing objects that spark a conversation. In this sculpture, the artist gathers three seemingly unrelated objects, and arranges them in a unique way to inspire conversation. In this interpretation of the game rock-paper-scissors, the paper has won by folding itself into a peace crane and flying just out of the scissors’ reach.

“The game rock-paper-scissors is a fun way to resolve lighthearted conflict, such as who gets to sit in the front seat or who gets to eat the last piece of cake. But in my experience, serious conflict requires conversation and communication so that we may better understand one another. Misunderstanding is often the cause of many conflicts and I find conversation is the key to peaceful resolution.” —Kevin Box
