New Arrivals!!

Today is an exciting day here at Wellfield Botanic Gardens. The last and largest shipment of annuals has arrived! Next week we embark on our summer seasonal change-out involving the replacement of spring plantings like tulips (discussed last week) with summer blooms.

This colorful collection of summer beauties are destined for many locations around the garden from container arrangements to the largest single display in the Annual Garden, a gift from Stuart and Paula Barb, which continues to provide stunning displays throughout the seasons.
(hmm, I wonder why it’s called the Annual Garden? That name has always escaped me.)

Each year an army of Wellfield volunteers eagerly looks forward to helping create cool and visually unique displays. Wellfield relies heavily on these willing assistants to make it all happen!

The Annual Garden theme this summer is “Bold Architecture.” The Garden displays plants with bold and interesting forms, demonstrating how annuals and tender perennials, which are treated as annuals in USDA Hardiness Zone 6, can be used to create dramatic arrangements. The design has a distinct tropical flair.

Now is a great time to become a volunteer and join in the fun. Hope to see you soon as we get down and dirty!
